I’m Liz Dean, the owner of Mt Elephant Fudge, and I have been making artisan fudge and chocolates in Tasmania for many years now. What began as a hobby in 2003, when I started making fudge and chocolate as gifts for friends, gradually evolved into what you see today, a busy cafe and wholesale business. The cafe opened in 2009, and was extensively refurbished in 2015 to include an entirely new interior look and an outdoor garden seating area. The outdoor seating area is pet friendly and a provides a pleasant place to relax amongst the flowers during spring and summer.

Whilst a chocolatier is not something you might expect to find in such a small town as St Marys in Tasmania, here I am.

I attended the Savour Chocolate and Patisserie School in Brunswick in 2004/2005. The courses taught at Savour School were hands-on. The class sizes were limited and there were plenty of opportunities to participate. I learnt a whole lot of skills that I have since managed to bring to my business here at Mt Elephant Fudge.

Over the years I’ve seen many changes in St Marys, yet the cornerstones of Mt Elephant Fudge remain constant. I’m still a sole operator; I’m still hand-crafting artisan fudge and chocolates on site; and there’s still a lot of love put into the creation of everything I sell in store and now on-line.
